Privacy Policy
Transly Pocket is a transcription and translation app made by Tristan David, an independent developer in Ontario, Canada ("we", "us"). It is built to work on your phone: your recordings, transcripts and translations are processed on the device and are never sent to us. Transly Pocket has no accounts and we don't run servers for it, so we never receive your name, email address, recordings or text.
Information that stays on your device
The app saves the following on your phone so it can work. We can't see any of it.
- Your audio recordings and imported audio or video files.
- Transcripts, translations, summaries, speaker labels and the names you give speakers.
- Your settings, the languages you choose, and how many free minutes you have used this month.
- The AI models and language packs you download.
You can delete a recording in the app's Library, delete downloaded models in Settings › Downloads, or uninstall the app to remove everything. On iPhone, if iCloud Backup is on, your recordings and transcripts may be included in your own device backup, which Apple stores for you; downloaded AI models are left out of backups. On Android, the app's data is not included in device backups.
Microphone and speech recognition
The app uses the microphone only while you record, translate live or speak in conversation mode, and it keeps recording in the background only while a recording you started is running. Speech is turned into text on your phone:
- On iPhone, by Apple's speech recognition set to work on the device only, or by the open-source Whisper model running on your iPhone for languages Apple can't do offline.
- On Android, by open-source speech models (Whisper and Moonshine) running on your phone.
Your audio is not sent to Apple, Google, us or anyone else for transcription.
Downloads of AI models and language packs
To work offline, the app downloads AI models once: speech and speaker models from Hugging Face and GitHub, and translation language packs from Google. Like any download, these requests reveal your IP address and basic technical information (such as the type of device) to the server you download from. No recordings, transcripts or other text are sent with them.

What we don't do
- We don't collect, upload or store your recordings, transcripts or translations.
- We don't show ads or track you across apps and websites.
- We don't use analytics or crash-reporting services of our own.
- We don't sell or share your personal information.
Recording other people
Laws in many places require the consent of the people you record. Please make sure you have it before recording a conversation, meeting or lecture.
Children
Transly Pocket is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, Canada's PIPEDA or California's CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information. Because everything stays on your device, you can view and delete it directly in the app at any time. For information Apple or Google hold about your purchases or ML Kit, use their privacy tools. We're happy to help with any question.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's update notes.
